Call for Abstracts — EGU2026 - Non-Conventional Water (NCW)

Our IAHS Working Group, which includes both the AGREEMed and AG-WaMED projects working on non-conventional water resources, is organizing a session at EGU26, to be held from 3–8 May 2026.

Call for Abstracts — EGU2026

We are pleased to announce a dedicated session on Non-Conventional Water (NCW) at #EGU2026!

Traditional water sources — such as rainfall, snowfall, river runoff, and easily accessible groundwater — are increasingly unable to meet the rising demands for #water and #food. In this context, Non-Conventional Waters (NCW)—encompassing both ancestral and modern approaches to generate, collect, store, treat, and reuse water—offer promising pathways to enhance water availability and adapt to climate change sustainably.

Although the effectiveness of these solutions has been demonstrated worldwide, their full potential remains underexplored, and their implementation is still limited by various barriers.

We invite contributions that explore the technical, socio-economic, and policy dimensions of non-conventional water resources, highlighting innovative practices, challenges, and opportunities for wider adoption.

This session is co-organized by the IAHS Working Group on “Non-Conventional Water Use for Integrated Water Resources Management.”
