Managed Aquifer Recharge in a Semi-arid Basin: A Case Study from the Souss Aquifer, Morocco

This article focuses on the Sidi Ifni project in Morocco, which is the largest fog collection project in the world. It proposes a pilot multi-aspect assessment procedure and establishes a fog harvesting annual average rate yield. The interviews confirm the technology appropriation by the local community and that environmental pollution and fog yield variability represent the main challenge.

This article presents a study, which aims to develop an innovative technique for managing water resources within the Souss-Massa watershed. It uses the System Dynamics (SD) methodology to analyze the interplay among the factors involved in water supply and demand.

This study assesses the water footprint (WF) of four major crops: walnuts, wheat, olives, and almonds cultivated in the Iguidi watershed between 1992 and 2021.

The Souss-Massa coastal area (SMCA) is known for tourism, fishing, and agriculture activities, which require intensive pumping of groundwater. This situation exacerbates aquifer depletion, reduce groundwater quality, and leads to seawater intrusion. Hence, the investigation of vulnerability and risk of seawater intrusion became a priority in the SMCA.
